The PVA Muzzle Jimmy solves an age-old problem when it comes to cleaning your rifle. Soaking the bore with solvent to soften up powder, carbon and copper residue without making a mess or using up a wasteful amount of cleaning solution that never ends up in the bore.
Cleaning operations use a cleaning SOLVENT, which to be a solvent must be the chemical in excess during the solution process. This means that the old method of soaking patches, wiping them through the bore with a solvent on them and hoping enough gets into the bore to react with the baked in fouling is akin to making steel via blacksmithing. The solute, which is the fouling, needs to be the Limiting Reagent in the chemical reaction. Meaning that the chemical being dissolved must be the thing that stops the reaction when there is no more if it left. If the solvent (like your Hoppes or BoreTech or Montana Extreme or whatever you want to use) is the limiting reagent then the cleaning only continues until there isn't any more solvent left and the excess chemical remaining is the fouling. That's not what we want, so we need more solvent to clear out the fouling.
So... make the excess chemical in the reaction the solvent and your life with a bore rod and patch becomes totally different. Here's the solution for that, the Muzzle Jimmy.
The cap pretty self explanatory but let's break it down:
1) Remove any muzzle device
2) Roll the larger o-ring onto the muzzle threads (like a jimmy... well now you know where the name came from)
3) Screw the MJ onto the threads and lightly snug (finger tight, not fist tight or wrench tight) the cap onto the muzzle.
4) Insert the plug screw and little o-ring as shown.
5) Tip the barrel muzzle down and fill it with solvent. If you have issues with this we have the "Jimmy Stick" available to aid, check out the quick youtube video on how it works.
6) Come back later and drain the solvent, remove the Jimmy Stick and Muzzle Jimmy, patch out the bore.
Some warnings:
Always refer to solvent manufacturer guidelines for how long to leave your chosen solvent in the bore.
Never fire the rifle with a Muzzle Jimmy still attached. (You would think we wouldn't need to say this, but...)
Always be sure to get all remaining solvent and other cleaning fluids out of the chamber and bore to avoid potentially dangerous pressure spikes during firing.
The Muzzle Jimmy is anodized aluminum for corrosion resistance and each thread pattern is color coded as follows:
Green: 1/2-28
Red: 5/8-24
Orange: 3/4-24
Other thread patterns are being added over time and will get their own unique color.
